Minimum order quantities (MOQ)

Most Brazilian meat suppliers operate with minimum order quantities that reflect the economics of frozen meat production and shipping. MOQs typically align with container capacity, with a standard 40-foot reefer container holding approximately 20-25 tonnes of frozen product depending on the product type and packaging. Some suppliers may accommodate smaller initial orders, though pricing per unit may be higher. Understanding MOQs helps buyers plan realistic procurement volumes and negotiate effectively.

02

Packaging standards for export

Frozen meat packaging for international export must maintain product integrity throughout transit and meet both origin and destination regulatory requirements. Standard export packaging includes corrugated cartons with polyethylene liners, labeled with product identification, weight, batch number, production date, storage instructions, and export certification marks. Some markets require additional labeling in the destination language. Buyers should communicate specific packaging and labeling requirements to suppliers before quotations are finalized.

03

Incoterms in meat trade

Incoterms define the responsibilities and cost allocation between buyer and seller in international trade. In meat exports, the most common Incoterms are FOB (Free on Board), where the seller delivers goods to the port and the buyer assumes costs from that point, and CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight), where the seller covers shipping and insurance to the destination port. Understanding which Incoterms apply to your quotation is essential for comparing true delivered costs. For a deeper explanation, see our Incoterms guide.

04

Refrigerated container considerations

Reefer container availability, temperature settings, and pre-cooling requirements all affect shipment logistics. Buyers should confirm that their supplier has access to reefer containers and can meet the required temperature profiles for their product type. Coordinating with freight forwarders experienced in meat logistics helps ensure smooth port handling and customs clearance.
